Bond response to Anneliese Dodds becoming the new Minister for International Development
In reaction to Anneliese Dodds’s appointment as Minister for International Development, Romilly Greenhill, CEO of Bond, the UK network for NGOs, said:
We look forward to working with Anneliese Dodds, the new Minister for International Development, as she works to rebuild the UK’s development reputation, expertise and partnerships. This will be crucial to address growing global challenges on conflict, poverty, debt, climate change and human rights.
In her new role, she must urgently respond to the growing humanitarian needs in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine, mobilise global responses to the growing debt crisis, and promote ambitious UK action at upcoming global summits on sustainable development and climate change.
Under Dodds’s leadership, we also hope to see a much-needed return to 0.7% and a UK aid budget that is effective, transparent, and accountable to both the British taxpayer and the communities we work with. We hope in time to also see an independent department responsible for, and with autonomy over, the UK aid budget. We look forward to working with her to pursue an approach to international development based on genuine respect and partnership with lower-middle income countries.
ENDS.
