What can I expect from the community?

The Ethical Storytelling group provides a space for everyone engaged in producing and sharing lived experience narratives in INGO communications and fundraising to discuss the ethics of these actions. We provide opportunities for peer-to-peer discussion, access to leaders in this space, and support on practical best practice approaches, and are a safe space to share experiences of both the practical challenges and the ideological debates.

We run approximately four working group sessions each year, delivering on topics that we crowdsource from the group. The sessions are a mix of guests sharing professional experiences, workshops providing advice on common areas of interest to our members, and thought-provoking debates on bigger issues such as decolonisation and AI.

Thanks to our co-chairs, who all occupy senior positions in the sector and bring a range of knowledge to their roles, we are able to help members stay up to date with best practice and thought leadership.

We welcome all new members to this community; our only criterion is that you bring a willingness to engage in the ethics of sharing stories in our sector, and a passion for storytelling!

How is the community governed?

The community is guided by a steering committee made up of members:

  • Rachel Erskine (Amref Health Africa UK)
  • Jess Crombie (Communications Consultant)
  • Shagufta Yaqub (Disasters Emergency Committee)
  • Jodie Frosdick (International Institute for Environment and Development)
  • Kate McCoy (Sightsavers)
