Terms and conditions: Humanitarian and Volunteer Awards
Please read the eligibility and judging criteria for the Humanitarian and Volunteer Awards before submitting your entry.
Bond membership
- Either the nominator or the nominee must be employed by a current Bond member.
Nominator must
- have direct knowledge of the nominee’s work;
- inform the nominee that you have nominated them for the award;
- read all supporting materials;
- submit the entry online and three images before the deadline (5.00pm, Friday 8 November 2019); and
- understand that the intentions for this initiative are to celebrate, share and publicly recognise the inspiring work of the Bond membership.
Nominee must
- not be an employee of the organisations by which any of the judges is employed. In the event that the judges are not announced until after the submission has been made, the judges will declare any conflict of interest;
- work on a current project in one of the following areas: humanitarian disaster relief and assistance, human development, refugee assistance, civil society, equitable economic development, health, environment, education, population or public policy;
- work or volunteer in the humanitarian and development community including INGO workers, suppliers to the sector, community organisations or government organisations;
- give consent for the information they provide to be uploaded onto the Bond website, Bond’s YouTube channel and used on Bond’s social media channels;
- give consent for potential media coverage of their nomination.
Judging criteria
To nominate someone for the Humanitarian Award or the Volunteer Award you must complete the entry form and submit three images.
Nominees will be judged on the following:
- Has the individual made an outstanding contribution to humanitarian or international development work including in challenging circumstances?
- Has the individual made a lasting impact on the life of others?
- Has the individual demonstrated an innovative approach?
- Does the individual’s story inspire others to act?
Your summary should cover
- Why you have nominated them?
- What projects have they worked on?
- What is the context of their work?
- Who benefits from their work?
- What is the most inspiring thing about them and their work?
- How does their work relate to a current global challenge or set of challenges?
- What influence and impact does their work have?
Judging process
- Judges will be experts in the field of international development, with particular experience in the area of each award. They will select the shortlist and choose winners.
- Judges will declare any conflicts of interest regarding relationships with either the nominator or the nominee.
- Only entries submitted via the appropriate online entry form will be considered.
- All information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence – all judges are required to sign non-disclosure agreements.
- Each category will have a shortlist of three, one overall winner and two runners-up.
- Judges will evaluate each entry against the criteria, using their own discretion based on their relevant expertise.
- In the event of a draw, judges will deliberate until they agree on a winner.
- Judges decisions are final and binding and no feedback will be given on unsuccessful entries.
- No correspondence will be entered into relating to the final decision.
- If it is found that any entrant has knowingly provided false information, Bond reserves the right to disqualify the entry.
Award sponsors
Entrants must:
- agree that overall winners and those highly commended will be cited with the name of Bond and the sponsor’s name in the sponsor’s publicity in relation to the award;
- understand that the sponsor will co-present the awards to the winners and runner-up at the award ceremony;
- understand that the individual awards may or may not be sponsored; and
- understand that the sponsors are not included on the judging panel and are not able to influence the judging panel in any way but may be present during the judging session.
